We are working with the City to turn an abandoned alley just south of Cochran Park into a beautiful walking path we all can enjoy. The alley runs behind the homes on Mission and Manett, between Garrett and the park. The goal is to replace the overgrown and washed out eyesore with a pleasant community area with gathering spots and plant beds. It will be a great place for our neighbors to meet up and enjoy for years to come!
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
To achieve this goal we need help raising the money and doing the work! Our fundraising goal is $10,000. We also need to recruit numerous volunteers willing to help research, purchase and deliver materials; to do manual labor; and to provide landscaping tools, know-how, and contractor connections. If you can do any of the above, we need you!
PLEASE DONATE OR BUY A BRICK!
To donate or to order an engraved brick, please click the Donate button below. 100% of direct donations go directly to the alley project; $80 of every $100 in brick sales goes to the alley project. As a 501(c)(3), your donations are tax-deductible.
The engraved brick order form is here. More information on the brick engraving company is here. Your order will be complete when both the order form and payment are received.
To donate in person or by mail, we also accept cash, check and credit card payments at CHNA meetings and events. Donations can also be mailed or dropped off at the home of the Treasurer, Michael Hamtil 5106 Milam St, Dallas, 75206. (mhamtil@hotmail.com, or 214-334-0500)
HOW WILL IT WORK?
Thanks to the hard work of our committee volunteers, the City has already done the work to improve the alley surface by pouring a curved concrete walkway. To complete the landscaping around the walkway, we need to raise a significant amount of money. One thing we are doing to offset costs is applying for a Dallas Neighborhood Vitality Grant but even if we get it we still need to raise money for such things as soil for planter beds, trees, plants, lighting, and signage in order to pay for the materials, supplies, and labor. The work will be done through a combination of “do-it-ourself” volunteer workdays and by hiring contractors. Anyone with equipment, tools, resources, a pickup truck, or knowledge in landscaping, carpentry, and painting work — or a willingness to pitch in and learn — we need you!
HOW DO I SIGN UP OR REACH YOU?
We will advertise workdays and create signup sheets as we progress. The project head is Judy Sullivan. The CHNA representative is Michael Hamtil. Judy, Michael, Doris Clark, Arlene Colbert, Sandy Garza, and Shari Hall will be at our neighborhood events to answer any questions. Judy and Doris are handling plans and contracting. Judy can be reached by phone 214-823-3486 (calls only, no texts) or email jndsullivan@gmail.com
